Barn gallery
A barn gallery embodies New England rural traditions

Project Details
Client Need:
A retired couple with an antiques business needed a showroom adjacent to their timber frame home built in 1780. They wanted an accessory building that would enhance their historic New England property and carry forward a tradition of construction craftsmanship for future generations to enjoy.
What We Did:
Now the entrance to the property is enhanced by an “English” barn, from a design commonly used in the Northeast from colonial days right into the 20th century, and still seen in the New England countryside. The style is characterized by a double wagon door on the lateral side.
Inside, the timber frame is the perfect backdrop for the collectibles on display. The second floor of the story-and-a-half barn will house the family’s model train—another ongoing tradition.
Hardwick Post & Beam designed the barn and erected the frame. Thorson Restoration and Construction finished the building.
