Client need—The Ahearn family has been raising and selling produce on the island of Martha’s Vineyard for more than thirty years. Their retail operation had outgrown the farm stand located in a barn near the road. They needed more space, but did not want to part with the sturdy old barn, which pre-dated their ownership of the property and has served them well.
What we did—We worked with James Galvin of DECA, Inc., a design/build firm, to integrate the new addition with the existing building. Our oak frame provides plenty of retail space for the growing business.
The family opted for straight braces instead of curved, in keeping with the barn tradition.
The result is an appealing post and beam retail space that reminds customers that they’re down on the farm—the one that provides them with local produce.
